Mizzou vs. Kansas State live blog

Tonight is “Bust the House” night at Hearnes Center with the Tigers playing a pivotal Big 12 match against K-State. While Missouri is well ahead of K-State in the Big 12 standings (Mizzou 13-9, K-State 2-8), KSU beat Mizzou in Manhattan Oct. 14.

A win would put Mizzou at 6-6 in the conference, and with tough matches at Nebraska (Nov. 4) and against Texas (Nov. 7) looming, a win today would go a long way toward giving MU some momentum heading into those big matches.

Mizzou has been playing well lately, though. Although they didn’t beat Texas last week, the Tigers played very well down in Austin. That carried over to a 3-1 win against Kansas in Lawrence that was huge for Mizzou in the Big 12 standings.

So sit back, relax, and strap it down. Tonight’s going to be a fun night of volleyball.

Also, be sure to check back on the site tomorrow for special video—I asked a few Tigers what their favorite Halloween costumes they’ve ever worn are and got some pretty awesome/cool/hilarious responses.

3-2 Tigers early. Rosa has two kills.

Tight game early on, with Mizzou taking an 8-6 lead on a side out by Brittney Brimmage.

———-

Paola just ripped her first kill on a beautifully set play. 10-10 right now.

———-

Alright, Paola’s rolling. Two kills and an ace put Mizzou up 12-11.

———-

BIG run for the Tigers has them up 15-11 as K-State calls a timeout. Catie Wilson picked up two blocks while Paola added another kill to put her at three for the match.

17-14 Tigers after a KSU service error.

———-

A 3-0 run by the Wildcats ties it up as Mizzou calls a timeout.

It’s 20-18 Mizzou after a KSU service error, KSU kill, team block by Mizzou, and a kill by Paola. She leads the Tigers with four kills in the match.

Another block by Mizzou and error by K-State put Mizzou up 22-18 in this closely-contested set.

———-

Catie drills a kill to put the Tigers at set point, 24-19.

———-

Mizzou calls a timeout after KSU rattles off two quick points. 24-21.

———–

And Mizzou takes the set 25-21 as K-State hits the ball into the net. Nice, nice win in that set by Mizzou.

———-

Couple of stat notes from the first set:

  • Catie Wilson had three kills and three blocks.
  • Paola Ampudia led the team with five kills.
  • Lei Wang-Francisco (2), Rosa Medrano (1) and Paola (1) all chipped in with blocks, too.

———-

Quick 4-3 lead for Mizzou. Paola picked up her sixth kill of the match early on in the set.

———-

Some more stat notes from the first set:

  • Mizzou hit .265, KSU .176.
  • Both teams had four total team blocks.
  • Catie hit .500 on six attempts, Paola .214 on 14 attempts.
  • Rosa chipped in by hitting .400 on five attempts, too.

———-

9-7 Mizzou after a net violation on K-State. Paola’s up to seven kills.

———-

Looks like we’re going to have another close set on our hands. 12-11 KSU after a JuliAnne Chisholm side out.

———-

18-15 Mizzou after a KSU error. This has been a nice all-around team performance—Amanda Hantouli has chipped in with three kills while Catie Wilson has two on the set.

———–

20-16 after a KSU net violation and a Catie Wilson ace. They’ve been aggressive at the net all day, and right now, it’s costing them.

———–

22-18 Mizzou now. Caitlyn Vann nearly had three great digs on that point—but the last one finally got by her.

———–

A kill from Paola makes it 23-19.

———-

Amanda Hantouli picked up her sixth kill of the set to make it 24-20 and Paola’s ninth kill of the match gave Mizzou a 25-20 win in the second set.

———-

Stat notes from the second set:

  • Mizzou hit .375 while KSU hit .256 in that second set.
  • Both Rosa Medrano and Amanda Hantouli have six kills with a .500 hitting percentage.
  • Paola Ampudia has 11 kills on the match with a .259 hitting percentage.
  • Caitlyn Vann has 11 digs to lead the team.

Also, there have been a ton of Mizzou athletes in the stands today, including J.T. Tiller, Kimmie English, Marcus Denmon, Zaire Taylor (who was wearing all Yankees stuff), Kurtis Gregory, and Terry Dennis among others. The whole “We Are Mizzou” mentality amongst all athletes here is pretty neat and isn’t something you’ll find at every school.

———-

Nice, nice start for Mizzou. 6-3 Tigers early on.

———

Catie has three kills in the set and nine on the match. 8-6 Mizzou.

——–

14-12 Mizzou still holding on to a lead after a kill by Rosa. This entire match has been close, but it seems like Mizzou has held a lead or been tied for most of the match.

———-

17-13 Mizzou. Paola is up to 15 kills, while Catie has nine.

———-

20-16 Mizzou. The Paola Ampudia kill-o-meter is at 16.

———–

Another net violation by K-State makes it 22-18 Mizzou as KSU calls a timeout.

———-

Paola with another “WOW” kill makes it 23-18 Mizzou and gives her 17 on the match.

———

Mizzou wins the set 25-18 and the set 3-0. Big win!
